Art
Intent
At Northdown Primary School, we believe that art plays a vital role in children's education, fostering creativity, curiosity, and hands-on experiences. Our art curriculum is designed to inspire, challenge, and equip children with the essential knowledge and skills to express themselves through their own works of art. As they progress through the school, children will develop a deep appreciation for the arts and the confidence to explore and experiment with a wide range of materials. They will also be encouraged to think critically and reflect on how Art and Design influence our history and contribute to our collective culture.
How is the subject taught?
At Northdown Primary School, our art curriculum covers three units each year: drawing, printing, and sculpture. Each unit provides children with opportunities to develop a variety of skills, experiment with different media and equipment, and work towards creating a final piece. To enrich their learning, children will experience "real-life art" through visits to art galleries and exhibitions and by participating in workshops with our resident artist.
